## Ready when they can

- Identify a specific local problem and who it affects (e.g., 'litter in the park spoils it for everyone')
- Propose more than one way to act and predict the results (e.g., 'a sign might help; a clean-up day would help more')
- Take part in an action and reflect on what changed (e.g., wrote to the council, joined a collection drive)

## Lesson: Taking action, step by step

When something in your neighborhood bothers you, complaining is easy. Doing something about it takes a plan. Start by naming the problem clearly and figuring out exactly who it affects.

*(drawing: Follow these six steps in order, from naming the problem to reflecting on what changed.)*

**Example.** Mia sees litter in the park's play area. It looks bad and feels unsafe for visitors. She compares a sign with a Saturday clean-up day. She predicts the sign might help a little; the clean-up could clear litter and bring more helpers.

Ask a trusted adult who can help, what permission you need, and how to act safely. Working with neighbors, classmates, or a local group often helps you do bigger jobs faster. After acting, compare results with your prediction. If litter returns, try another plan and check again.

**Recap.** Name the problem, weigh your options, predict what might happen, then act and check what changed.
