# Creating Digital Content

Use technology purposefully to create and manage digital work: write and edit documents, make pictures, slides and simple videos, save files where they can be found again, and choose or combine the right software for the job

## Ready when they can

- Create a piece of digital work with a purpose (e.g., a poster, a slideshow about a topic, a short animation)
- Save work with a sensible name, organise files into folders, and find a piece of work again days later
- Choose and combine software for a task (e.g., take photos, then put them into a slideshow with captions)

## Lesson: Making things on a screen

Digital content is work you make on a computer or tablet, such as a story, picture, poster or slideshow. Decide who it is for. An app is software you use for a job. A writing app lets you type words. To edit a saved story, open it, change its words and save the changes.

*(drawing: One plan for a slideshow: take new photos, add them to slides, then type words about each picture. These words are captions.)*

**Example.** Mia makes a cat poster for her class. She adds a title, a photo and three facts. Her app lets her choose a name and folder when saving. She saves 'Mias_Cat_Poster' in School Work. Later, that name and folder help her find and open the poster. She adds a fact and saves the change.

Files hold your saved work. Folders keep related files together. Choose a name that describes your work and remember its folder. Use different names for work you want to keep in the same folder. Choosing 'Replace' can put new work in place of an old file.

Some apps save as you work. Others need you to tap Save. When your app asks, give your work a clear name and choose a folder you remember. Before closing the app, check that your latest changes are saved. Later, open that folder and file to carry on.

Choose apps by what they can do. For new photos, use a camera app, then add the photos to a slideshow app and type captions. Captions are words about pictures. If you already have photos, you can use them. Some slideshow apps add both photos and captions. A project may use one app or several.

**Recap.** Clear file names and folders help you find digital work again. Choose apps for your job and save your changes.
