## Ready when they can

- Name all 26 letters in both cases when shown in random order
- Recite the alphabet from A to Z
- Use letter names to explain spelling choices (e.g. 'Is it c or k in cat?')

## Lesson: Knowing all letters

The words in Mia's book are built from 26 letters. Each letter has a capital and a small form. A capital A and a small a are the same letter. The letters sit in one fixed order from A to Z. That order is what the alphabet song sings.

*(drawing: Say each letter in order: A, B, C, D, E.)*

**Example.** Theo sees mixed-up letters: Q, t, B. He names each one fast: q, t, b, capital or small. Then he spells cat. He hears a k sound, but he knows cat starts with the letter C, not K. Kite starts with the letter K.

**Tip.** A big G and a small g look different. But they are the same letter. Say the name, not the shape.

**Recap.** Know all 26 letters, capital and small, and say them in order from A to Z.
