Question words help you ask about things you want, like a lost toy or a pet. Who, what, where, when, why, and how are question words. Who asks about a person. What asks about a thing. Where asks about a place. When asks about a time. Why asks about a reason. How asks about a way. Questions end with a question mark. Tellings end with a full stop or exclamation.

*(drawing: Six little words. Each one asks something different.)*

**Example.** Nina wants to know where her cat is. She asks, "Where is my cat?" The word where asks about a place.

**Tip.** Who asks about a person. What asks about a thing. Where asks about a place. When asks about a time. Why asks about a reason. How asks about a way.
