## Lesson: Persuasion with rhetoric spared

Open with a concrete case, not a general claim. A specific moment, like standing in a fresh market, pulls readers in before you ask them to accept the bigger point about fresh food.

Place a repeated structure exactly once, at the point of most pressure. One well-chosen example there does more than five weak ones scattered about the piece.

Cut any device that only decorates. A rhetorical question that adds nothing to the argument should go, however clever it sounds on its own.

**Tip.** Use each tool because it fits the moment, not because it sits on a list. Notice which choices move the argument forward, then stop once the point lands.
