## Ready when they can

- Say a complete sentence aloud before attempting to write it
- Rehearse a sentence orally more than once to hold it in memory
- Practise sentences with a partner before writing independently

## Lesson: Say It Before You Write It

Before you write a sentence, say it out loud first. Listen to how it sounds. This helps you remember your idea. Saying it with a friend helps too.

*(drawing: Say your sentence, say it again, then write it down.)*

**Example.** Sam wants to write about his dog. He says, 'My dog runs fast.' He says it again, then writes it down.

**Tip.** If you forget your sentence, say it again before writing. Practising with a friend can help too.

**Recap.** Say your sentence first, then write it down.
