## Lesson: Speaking to the brief, fielding questions

Shape your talk around the brief and the listeners. Ask who sits in front of you, since classmates need different points stressed than judges do, then choose what to slow down on.

Speak from notes, never by reading a script aloud. Notes keep you sounding like yourself and let you look up at the room, while a script flattens your pace.

Deliver the key point so it is truly heard. Slow down for the line that matters most, stress it, then pause so it settles over the room before you move on.

**Tip.** Treat questions as part of the talk. Repeat a hard one back so the room hears it, concede the part that is fair, and hold your position on the rest with a reason.
