# Writing to inform

Compose informative or explanatory texts using drawing, dictating, or writing that name a topic and supply some information about it

Subject: English · Area: Writing Composition · Ages 5 to 7
Page: https://lightmysky.com/learn/english/writing-to-inform-mt__MDiDU9Vck

## Ready when they can

- Write or dictate two or three facts about a familiar topic
- Label diagrams or drawings with informative details
- Name a topic and provide relevant details about it

## Lesson: Writing to teach what you know

When you write to inform, you teach the reader true facts. First you name your topic, then you tell about it.

*(drawing: Start with the topic, then add fact one, two, three.)*

**Example.** Mia names her topic: butterflies. She writes two facts: they hatch from eggs, and they grow wings.

**Tip.** Pick a topic you know well. Facts must be true, not just guesses.

**Recap.** Name your topic, then share two or three true facts.
