# Globalisation and Who It Left Out

Since 1980 goods, money and information have moved with less friction than ever, and the gains have been very unevenly shared. Deciding whether that counts as progress means choosing what to measure.

## Lesson: Who gained from globalisation

Since 1980 goods, cash, and ideas cross bounds with less drag. Firms split making across lands, and cash shifts in a flash. Trade pacts cut bound taxes, while tariffs guard shut marts.

**Example.** A phone may be drawn in one land, built in a second, and sold in a third. Each step chases lower cost or keener skill. Big box ships, cheap flights and calls, and open cash marts cut the cost.

The gains split in uneven shares. Poor counts fell in fast growers, yet gaps inside many lands grew, and top earners took more. Plant towns can boom in one land while mill towns fade in another.

**Tip.** Split the flow from the share. Trade sums show bulk; pay data and tax rolls show who gained. Ask which facts would flip your view, then plead both sides with those facts.
