# Pharaohs and Tutankhamun

Know that ancient Egypt was ruled by powerful kings and queens called pharaohs, who lived in grand palaces and made the laws — and that one of the most famous pharaohs is Tutankhamun, a boy who became pharaoh as a child and whose golden tomb was discovered thousands of years later

## Lesson: Pharaohs and Tutankhamun

A pharaoh was the ruler of ancient Egypt. Pharaohs were like kings and queens. They lived in grand palaces. They made the laws for everyone.

One famous pharaoh was named Tutankhamun. He became pharaoh when he was just a boy. People called him a boy king.

**Example.** Long after Tutankhamun died, explorers found his tomb. Inside, they found a beautiful golden mask. The mask showed us he was a real pharaoh.

**Tip.** When you see a golden Egyptian mask, think of Tutankhamun. Remember, he was a powerful pharaoh, even as a boy.
