# Persisting When It's Hard

Keep learning when a task feels hard. Try another way, ask for a hint, or take a break and return.

Subject: Learning to Learn · Area: Learning to Learn · Ages 5 to 6

## Ready when they can

- Stay involved in a suitable difficult task, with a hint or a break when needed
- After a mistake, notice a useful clue and try a change
- Use words that leave room for learning, such as 'I am still learning this'

## Lesson: Keep trying when it's hard

A new task can feel hard. Keep learning by trying again, looking at what happened, or asking for a hint. You do not have to get it right today. Stop and ask a grown-up if something hurts or feels unsafe.

*(drawing: Look at what happened before choosing a change.)*

**Example.** Mia's zipper is stuck on some cloth. A grown-up helps free it. Mia tries again. Look for a clue, change that part, then check what happens.

You can feel upset and still learn. Say, 'I am still learning this.' A hint can help you try the next part yourself. If you are tired, rest and return later.

**Example.** Sam presses his crayon hard and the tip breaks. He tries a lighter touch. A mistake can show what to change. Sometimes you need more practice doing it the same way.

**Recap.** Keep learning by trying again, asking for a hint, or returning after a break.
