## Ready when they can

- Identify a learned skill that could help with a new task
- Try the skill in the new task and check whether it needs to change

## Lesson: Taking a skill somewhere new

You have practiced finding connections. Now choose a skill you know that could help with a new task. Try it and check how it works. This is transferring a skill. The new task may be in the same subject, another subject or daily life.

*(drawing: The grouping skill carries over. The sorting feature changes.)*

**Example.** Maya sorts crayons by color. Later, she sorts leaf pictures by shape. She keeps the skill of grouping by a chosen feature and changes the feature.

Match the skill to the job. Counting finds a total. A step list helps plan or remember an order. A checklist helps find missing things. Marking useful information helps you find it again.

**Example.** Ben checks a list when packing for a trip. For art, he writes a supply list and checks each item as he gathers it.

An old skill may need changes or more practice in a new task. Read the new instructions. Try the method, check the result and change what does not fit. Not every old rule has to carry over.

**Recap.** Choose a skill that fits the new task. Try it, check it and make changes when needed.
