## Ready when they can

- Explain what happens when you buy something in a shop (choose, pay, get change)
- Read a price label and say whether they have enough money to buy the item
- Act out a simple buying scenario using real or play coins

## Lesson: How buying works

When you buy something, three steps happen. First you choose it. Then you pay. Then you get change back if you paid too much.

*(drawing: These are the three steps of buying something.)*

**Example.** Mia wants a toy. It costs 50p. She pays with a pound coin. She gets 50p change back.

**Tip.** Before you buy something, check you have enough money. Look at the price tag first.

**Recap.** Choosing, paying, and getting change make up a purchase.
