## Ready when they can

- Explain that the things we buy are made by real people, sometimes in other countries
- Describe what 'fair trade' means in simple terms (workers get paid fairly)
- Give an example of a kind choice a shopper could make (buying fair trade chocolate, choosing less packaging)

## Lesson: Fair Trade and Kind Choices

Almost everything you buy started with a real person. A farmer grew the cocoa beans in your chocolate bar. A worker sewed the stitches in your shirt. Many of these people live in other countries, far from your home.

*(drawing: Fair trade means a bigger share of your money reaches the farmer who did the work.)*

**Example.** At the shop, Ben sees two chocolate bars side by side. One has a small Fairtrade logo on the wrapper. He picks that one, because it means the cocoa farmer who grew the beans was paid a fair price for the work.

**Tip.** You can be a kind shopper too. Look for the Fairtrade logo, ask an adult about it, or choose a snack with less packaging so there is less rubbish.

**Recap.** Fair trade means paying the people who make our things a fair price, and choosing fair trade or less packaging is a kind choice.
