## Ready when they can

- Sort a set of pictures into goods (things you can touch) and services (things people do for you)
- Give three examples of goods and three examples of services from their everyday life
- Explain that both making things and helping people are valuable kinds of work

## Lesson: Goods and Services

Some people make things you can touch and hold. We call these things goods. A toy is a good. So is a loaf of bread.

Other people do jobs to help you. We call this work a service. A haircut is a service. So is a doctor's check-up.

*(drawing: Bread, shoes, and a toy are goods you can keep. A haircut, a bus ride, and a check-up are services people do. That is three of each.)*

**Example.** Ben's dad bakes bread at his shop. Ben can touch the bread and take it home. The bread is a good. Then a bus driver drives Ben to school. The driver helps Ben get there. That ride is a service.

**Tip.** Ask yourself one question. Can I touch it and keep it? Then it is a good. If someone did something to help you, it is a service.

**Recap.** Goods are things you can touch. Services are things people do to help you.
