## Lesson: Spot the four moves of a scam

Most scams run the same four moves. A reason to hurry, a borrowed authority, a request to keep it quiet, and a payment route that cannot be reversed. Learn the four and you can point at each one inside any message.

**Example.** A text claims your parcel is held and pushes you to pay at once through a fast app. The hurry, the borrowed name, the secrecy and the instant payment are all four moves in one message. Apps like that move money in seconds, and no bank can pull it back, like handing over cash in the street.

Watch the refund the difference trick too. A buyer overpays with a fake payment, then asks you to return the extra through a route that cannot be reversed. Never move money through your own account for someone else, since the bank treats you as the sender.

**Tip.** Verify through a channel you looked up yourself, never a link or number from the message. A deal that only works by mail, wire or gift cards, with the other side rushing you, is a red flag. Meet face to face or walk away.
