## Ready when they can

- Explain that 10 groups of 10 ones make 100
- Bundle ten tens sticks into one hundred and describe what happened
- Represent 100 using base-ten blocks showing 10 tens

## Lesson: Ten tens make a hundred

You already know that ten ones bundled together make one ten. Now bundle again. Take ten of those ten-bundles and put them all together. That big bundle gets a new name: a hundred.

*(drawing: Count every dot: 10 rows with 10 dots in each row. That is 100 dots in all.)*

**Example.** Omar has ten bags. Each bag has ten pretzels. He pours all ten bags into one big bowl. Now the bowl has one hundred pretzels, because ten tens make a hundred.

**Tip.** When you write 100, the 1 sits in the hundreds spot. The two zeros mean there are no extra tens and no extra ones left over, just one full hundred.

**Recap.** Ten tens bundled together make one hundred, which is why 100 has a 1 in the hundreds place and two zeros after it.
