You put them together and count all of them. That number is the total, or how many altogether. *(drawing: 3 stars and 2 more stars. Together, that is 5 stars.)* **Example.** Leo has 3 apples. A friend gives him 2 more apples. Now Leo has 5 apples altogether. When two groups join, ask how many altogether. Count every one from both groups.
