# Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s

Count in multiples of 2, 5, and 10 (skip counting)

## Ready when they can

- Count 2, 4, 6, 8 … up to at least 20
- Count 5, 10, 15, 20 … up to at least 50
- Count 10, 20, 30 … up to 100
- Count back in 2s from 12, for example Count back 12, 10, 8 down to 2.
- 2s landings are even, for example Identify 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 as even.

## Lesson: Skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s

You can count one by one to 100. Skip counting is faster when you pair socks. You jump by the same number each time, like 2 each time, and you do not say every number. Counting by 5s means you jump by 5 each time. You can also jump back by 2, like 30, 28, 26. Starting at 0 or 2, each 2s landing is even.

**Example.** Mia lines up her blocks in pairs. She skip-counts: 2, 4, 6, 8. Mia has 8 blocks.

Counting by 10s uses the same idea. Jump by 10 each time: 10, 20, 30. Say each number out loud as you go.
