If you cut a whole into 100 equal parts instead of 10, each part is called a hundredth. We write it as 1/100. *(drawing: Each mark is one hundredth. Count them one by one: 3/100, 4/100, 5/100, all the way to 12/100.)* **Example.** Ravi has £1, which is the same as 100 pennies. He spends 8 pennies, so he has spent 8 out of 100 parts of his pound. That is 8/100. **Tip.** Counting hundredths works just like counting whole numbers, only the bottom number stays 100.
