## Ready when they can

- Measure the length of a table using cubes and record the result
- Begin to use a ruler to measure in centimetres
- Record a measurement as a number with a unit

## Lesson: Measuring length with units

To measure something, use small units like cubes. Line the cubes up next to it. Count how many cubes it takes.

*(drawing: This table is 8 cubes long. Count them one by one.)*

**Example.** Mia measures her book with cubes. She lines up 4 cubes next to it. The book is 4 cubes long.

*(drawing: A ruler measures in centimetres. This pencil is 6 centimetres long.)*

**Tip.** Always start measuring from the very end. Line up the cubes with no gaps. Write the number and the unit.

**Recap.** Line up units with no gaps, count them, and write the number with its unit.
