# Measuring Time

Measure and begin to record time in hours, minutes, and seconds

## Ready when they can

- Use a sand timer or stopwatch to time an activity
- Begin to understand that 1 minute = 60 seconds
- Record a duration in simple terms (e.g. 'it took about 2 minutes')

## Lesson: Telling time to the minute

A stopwatch or sand timer can measure time. It shows how long something takes. One minute is the same as 60 seconds.

**Example.** Leo starts a sand timer before he brushes his teeth. When the sand runs out, about 2 minutes have passed. He says, 'That took about 2 minutes.'

**Tip.** You do not need an exact number. Just say about how many minutes it took.
