## Ready when they can

- Given a set of 5, know that adding one object makes 6
- Explain that 8 is one more than 7
- Given a number, identify one more and one less

## Lesson: One more than a number

Counting numbers have an order. Each number comes one after the last one. The next number is always one more.

*(drawing: Count the stars: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.)*

**Example.** Mia has 5 stickers. Her dad gives her one more sticker. Mia does not count again. She just says the next number: 6.

**Tip.** To find one more, just say the next counting number. One more than 7 is 8. To find one less, say the number just before. One less than 4 is 3.

**Recap.** One more is always the very next counting number you say.
