# Sequence intervals of time

Compare and sequence intervals of time

Subject: Mathematics · Area: Measurement · Ages 6 to 7
Page: https://lightmysky.com/learn/mathematics/sequence-intervals-of-time-mt_6XCURuNwPw

## Ready when they can

- Order three events by how long they took
- Compare the duration of two activities (e.g. 'the race took longer than the walk')
- Sequence intervals on a timeline

## Lesson: Putting time in order

You already know how to compare two things and say which one takes longer. Now you will line up three or more events by how long they last, from the shortest to the longest.

*(drawing: Each bar shows how long an activity takes. The taller the bar, the longer it takes.)*

**Example.** Mia had a busy morning. She brushed her teeth for 2 minutes, walked the dog for 15 minutes, and watched a show for 30 minutes. Shortest to longest: teeth, then the walk, then the show.

**Tip.** To sequence intervals, pick the shortest one first. Then look at what is left and pick the next shortest. Keep going until every event has its place in line.

**Recap.** Sequencing time means lining up events from the one that took the least time to the one that took the most.
