# Telling Time: Hours and Half Hours

Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour, and draw clock hands to show these times

## Ready when they can

- Read an analogue clock showing 3 o'clock
- Read an analogue clock showing half past 7
- Draw the hour and minute hands on a blank clock face to show a given o'clock or half-past time

## Lesson: Telling time: o'clock and half past

A clock has two hands. The short hand shows the hour. The long hand shows the minutes.

*(drawing: This is 3 o'clock. The long hand points to 12.)*

**Example.** Half past means the long hand points to 6. Mia sees the short hand between 7 and 8. It is half past 7.

**Tip.** To draw an o'clock time, point the long hand at 12. To draw a half past time, point the long hand at 6. Put the short hand near the hour number.
