You already know tenths (0.1) and hundredths (0.01). Cut a hundredth into 10 even smaller pieces, and each piece is a thousandth. A thousandth is written 0.001, or as the fraction 1/1000. One hundredth is 10 thousandths, and one tenth is 100 thousandths. *(drawing: These ticks count thousandths, so 0.340 is 340 of them and 0.350 is 350. Five steps on from 340 lands on 345 thousandths, which is 0.345.)* **Example.** Priya measures 0.035 liters of medicine. She checks the digits after the point: 0 tenths, 3 hundredths, 5 thousandths, which is 35 thousandths in all. As a fraction, that is 35/1000. **Tip.** Count the digits after the decimal point.
