## Ready when they can

- State their own rule for when a rough patch stops being an ordinary bad week (how long it has run, whether school and eating and sleep still work, whether anyone is at risk)
- Name three people or services they could go to and what each one is actually for
- Write the first two sentences they would say, in plain words, without making it sound smaller than it is

## Lesson: When friends are not enough

Knowing you need help is a skill with visible signs. The low mood outlasts two weeks, schoolwork and sleep keep sliding, or someone could get hurt. At that point willpower is the wrong tool and another person is the right one. Write your own rule now, while you are calm, so future you only has to follow it.

Different helpers fit different troubles. Teachers fit workload tangles, counsellors and doctors fit mood and health, and trusted adults fit safety worries. Name three people or services you could go to and what each one is actually for, before you ever need them.

**Example.** Alba finally asks her teacher. She catches a calm moment, names the exact stuck point, and brings the page of tries she already made. Showing her attempt turns the talk from confession into teamwork, and most teachers respect a student who arrives with one clear question.

**Tip.** If feelings stay heavy, a therapist is a trained coach for your inner life, not a last resort. Compare what they treat and what sessions look like, and test the first meeting with questions. You may switch if the fit is wrong. Open with two plain sentences that say what is happening without shrinking it.

**Recap.** Spot the signs, pick the right helper, say it plain.
