# Body Image and the Pictures You Scroll Past

Most images of bodies that reach a teenager are selected, posed, edited or generated, and comparing yourself with them is comparing with something that does not exist. Covers what filters and editing actually change, why a feed shows more of what you linger on, and what changes when you notice the comparison happening.

## Ready when they can

- Name three things routinely edited in an image of a person and say how each would be visible if undone
- Explain why a feed shows more of the bodies you stopped to look at
- Describe one thing to do when you notice a comparison starting, other than scrolling on

## Lesson: The bodies in your feed are edited

Most bodies that reach you are selected, posed, edited, or generated. Skin gets smoothed, waists get pinched, muscles get shaded in, and light and angles get picked to flatter. None of it happens by accident.

Your feed is not a fair sample either. The app learns you paused on certain bodies, so it feeds you more of the same to keep you watching. You see a highlight reel next to your own behind the scenes feelings.

**Example.** Say you linger on a fitness clip and feel small next. Name it out loud: this is comparison starting. Put the phone down and do one real thing: stretch, text a friend, or step outside. Talk to yourself the way you would comfort a friend in the same spot.

**Tip.** Take charge of the feed. Unfollow accounts that drain you, follow ones that teach or cheer you, and cap late night scrolling. Judge your body by what it lets you do: run, laugh, carry, dance. Bodies are tools before they are pictures.

**Recap.** Feeds show edited highlights chosen to hold you, so notice comparison and answer it kindly.
