## Ready when they can

- Identify a recurring emotional trigger and their typical response to it
- Describe how their emotional understanding has changed compared to when they were younger
- Set a personal goal related to emotional awareness, such as noticing when stress is building

## Lesson: Emotional Patterns Over Time

An emotional pattern is a feeling that keeps showing up in the same kind of moment. Maybe your stomach tightens before every test, or you snap at your little brother whenever you're tired. Noticing the pattern is the first step. Once you see it, you can stop being surprised by it.

*(drawing: Same trigger, same response, three times in a row. That's a pattern, not bad luck.)*

**Example.** Zara used to think something was wrong with her every time she felt shaky before a test. Now she notices the pattern: tests always bring on that tight, nervous feeling, and it fades once she starts writing. When she was younger, she cried and didn't know why. Now she can say, 'I always get stressed before tests, but I've learned that's normal for me.'

**Tip.** Think back to how you handled a strong feeling a few years ago, and compare it to how you handle it now. If you notice you understand yourself better, that's real growth. Pick one small goal, like noticing when stress starts building in your shoulders or your breathing.

**Recap.** Your feelings often follow patterns, and noticing your own patterns is a skill that keeps getting sharper as you grow.
