## Lesson: Who am I? Identity and belonging as you grow

Identity includes your interests, values and the groups you belong to. These can change as you grow. Some teenagers feel unsure about who they are; others feel more settled. Uncertainty is possible, not required. It does not by itself prove a problem. If it causes distress, you can ask a trusted adult for support.

**Example.** Mia is quiet during family dinner and lively with her art club. She says both ways feel true to her. Different settings can bring out different real sides of a person. Changing how you act does not by itself show that you are pretending.

'More than one group' means two or more groups. You can belong to a family, a friend group or a cultural community during the same period. Groups may expect different things, bringing mixed feelings. Feeling pulled does not automatically cancel a membership or require leaving a group. You can value both while working out what to do.

People choose which moments to post on social media. Some posts highlight holidays or celebrations; others show difficulties or ordinary days. You cannot assume the posts show a whole life. Comparing your everyday life with selected enjoyable moments gives an incomplete comparison, not proof that your life is worse.

To discuss uncertainty, try 'I don't know where I belong yet, and I can explore it.' This names the question without judging you or demanding one permanent group choice. You can talk with someone you trust. Asking for support is appropriate if the uncertainty is upsetting or interferes with daily life.

When interests or friendships change, separate what happened from what you conclude. 'My interests changed' is an observation. 'That proves something is wrong with me' goes beyond it. A change alone proves neither a problem nor that everything is harmless. Consider the circumstances and how you feel; seek support when needed.

**Recap.** Identity can change, and uncertainty is possible rather than required. Explore your groups and feelings, and ask for support when you need it.
