## Ready when they can

- Name a personal strength and give a specific example of using it
- Describe something they find hard and suggest a practice step, useful change or request for help
- Compare what they could do before with what they can do now, without expecting improvement at every try

## Lesson: My Strengths and How I Grow

A strength is something you do well. Give a real example of using it. Enjoying an activity is a preference; it does not show your skill. Feedback tells you what someone noticed about what you did.

**Example.** Zara's animal joke made her brother laugh yesterday. That is an example of her joke-telling strength. A limitation is something you find hard. Spelling is hard for Zara, so she plans to practise a few words with help each evening.

*(drawing: Zara checks the same ten spelling words each week: 3 correct, then 6, then 8.)*

Practice and help can build skills. Scores may stay the same or dip. Compare what you could do before with what you can do now. On a bar chart, find the week label and read the number above that bar. One score cannot tell you everything about a skill.

**Example.** If practice is not helping, ask for a useful change. If a coach says, 'Your throw helped,' ask which throw and why. Try a tip and check whether it helps.

**Recap.** Use examples to describe strengths. Name a hard part and a next step. Practice and help can build skills, but not every try has to show progress.
