# Resilience and Bouncing Back

Understand resilience as the ability to recover from setbacks, adapt to difficult circumstances, and keep going — recognising that resilience is a skill that develops through experience, not a trait you either have or don't

## Ready when they can

- Define resilience in their own words and explain why it matters
- Describe a time they bounced back from a setback and what helped them recover
- Explain that resilience grows through experience and that struggling doesn't mean you're weak

## Lesson: Resilience Grows Every Time You Bounce Back

Resilience is not something you either have or don't have. It's a skill, and skills grow stronger every time you use them. Each time you face a setback and keep going, you build a little more resilience, the same way practice makes you stronger at a sport.

*(drawing: The more setbacks you face and recover from, the stronger your resilience gets.)*

**Example.** Mia didn't get picked for the school play. She felt disappointed and cried a little that night. The next day, she asked her teacher for feedback, kept practicing her lines, and tried out for a different role. She bounced back.

**Tip.** When you struggle, that doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It means you're in the part where resilience grows. Pushing through builds the skill.

**Recap.** Resilience isn't fixed. It grows every time you face a setback and keep going.
