# Roads, Pavements and Crossing Safely

## Ready when they can

- Name three places that are safer to cross than the middle of a parked row

## Lesson: Crossing the road with care

Roads are for cars, and pavements are for you. Cars move fast, so you cross with care. A safe place beats a fast dash every time.

**Example.** Pick a safe place to cross. Use a zebra crossing, a crossing with lights, or a footbridge. With no crossing near, walk to a corner and follow the signals. Never start between parked cars.

**Example.** At the kerb, stop at the edge. Look left, then right, then left again, and listen too. Walk straight across, never run, and keep your eyes open all the way.

**Tip.** Make yourself easy to see. Wear bright clothes and hold a grown up hand. If your view is blocked, move to a spot where you can see both ways. Drivers cannot see a small child hidden between big cars.
