## Ready when they can

- Demonstrate at least two calming strategies when prompted
- Choose to use a calming strategy independently during a real upset
- Explain in simple terms why calming down helps them think better

## Lesson: Calm Your Big Feelings

Sometimes you feel upset or overwhelmed. Your body feels shaky, hot, or tight. A calming strategy helps your body and mind settle down.

*(drawing: Counting slowly to ten gives your body time to calm down.)*

**Example.** Ben lost his board game and felt like yelling. He took three slow deep breaths instead. His body calmed down, and he could think again.

**Tip.** If counting does not help, try going to a quiet space. Different strategies work for different people. It is okay to try more than one.

**Recap.** Deep breaths, counting, and quiet spaces help you calm down.
