## Lesson: Stop, Think, Then Choose

Sometimes a choice feels like it has to happen right away. But rushing can make you pick something you regret. There is a simple way to slow down: stop, think about your options, guess what might happen, then choose.

*(drawing: Walk through these four steps before you decide.)*

**Example.** Mia's friend wants her to cut in the lunch line. Mia stops and thinks. Option one: cut the line with her friend. Option two: wait her turn. If she cuts, other kids might get upset and she could get in trouble. If she waits, everyone stays treated fairly. Mia chooses to wait, because being fair matters more to her than saving a minute.

**Tip.** When a choice feels hard, ask two questions: what are my options, and what might happen with each one? Answering those questions makes it easier to choose on purpose, instead of by accident.

**Recap.** Stop, list your options, think about what might happen with each, then choose the one that works out best.
