## Ready when they can

- Names at least 4 different types of animal homes (nest, burrow, hive, web, shell, den, lodge)
- Explains that animals need homes for shelter and to keep their babies safe
- Matches common animals to their homes

## Lesson: Where animals live

Every animal needs a safe place to live. Animals make or find many kinds of homes.

**Example.** A bird builds a nest from twigs and grass. A rabbit digs a burrow underground. A bee lives inside a hive with its family.

**Example.** A hermit crab finds an empty shell and moves in. A spider spins a silky web to catch food and rest.

*(drawing: Count 5 kinds of animal homes: a nest, a burrow, a hive, a shell, and a web.)*

**Tip.** Animal homes keep them safe from weather and other animals. Homes also protect their babies.

**Recap.** Animals build or find homes to stay safe and protect their babies.
