## Ready when they can

- Name at least four common dinosaur species from pictures or models
- Describe one visible feature of each (e.g. T. rex has tiny arms, Triceratops has three horns)
- Match a dinosaur name to a picture or model without help

## Lesson: Meet Some Famous Dinosaurs

You already know dinosaurs were real animals. Today you meet four famous ones, so you can spot them in books and toy boxes. Each one looks very different from the others.

**Example.** Tyrannosaurus rex, or T. rex, has huge teeth. Plenty of dinosaurs have big teeth. Its arms are tiny, too small to reach its mouth.

**Example.** Triceratops has three horns on its face: one above its nose and two above its eyes. A bony frill covers its neck.

**Example.** Stegosaurus has a short neck, back plates, and tail spikes. Brachiosaurus has a long neck for reaching leaves high in trees.

*(drawing: Four dinosaurs, four big clues: tiny arms for T. rex, three horns for Triceratops, back plates for Stegosaurus, a long neck for Brachiosaurus.)*

**Tip.** Out of these four dinosaurs, one big clue is enough. Tiny arms mean T. rex. Three horns mean Triceratops. Plates mean Stegosaurus. A long neck means Brachiosaurus.

**Recap.** Each of these four dinosaurs has one big clue: tiny arms, horns, plates, or a long neck.
