## Ready when they can

- Describe at least three different ways minibeasts move such as crawling, flying, and slithering
- Match a minibeast to its way of moving, for example grasshoppers jump and worms slither
- Count legs on a minibeast and notice that ants have six while spiders have eight

## Lesson: How minibeasts move

Minibeasts move in many different ways. Some crawl. Some fly. Some slither, jump, or dig. Watching how it moves helps you know what it is.

*(drawing: An ant has six legs. Count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.)*

**Example.** Zara watches a grasshopper in the grass. Its back legs are long and strong. It jumps high into the air. A spider runs by on eight legs. Then a worm wriggles by. It has no legs at all. It slithers along the ground.

**Tip.** Look at how a minibeast moves before you name it. A jumper has strong back legs. A slitherer has no legs at all.

**Recap.** Minibeasts move in different ways: crawling, flying, slithering, jumping, and burrowing.
