## Ready when they can

- Describe the air inside a rainforest as hot and sticky (humid)
- Explain that the forest floor is dark because tall trees block most of the sunlight
- Name at least two sounds you would hear in a rainforest, such as bird calls, insect buzzing, or rain dripping

## Lesson: Inside a Rainforest

Step into a rainforest and the air feels hot and sticky. That sticky feeling is called humid air. Water floats all around you, even in the air.

High up, the treetops make a thick green roof. That roof blocks most of the sunlight. Down on the ground, it stays dark and cool.

**Example.** Mia stands under the trees. She hears birds calling and bugs buzzing. Water drips from a leaf onto her arm. The ground is dark, but the sounds are everywhere.

*(drawing: All of these sounds happen at the same time. A rainforest is never quiet.)*

**Tip.** Close your eyes and just listen. A rainforest is never silent. You might hear calls, buzzing, and dripping water, all at once.

**Recap.** Rainforests feel hot, look dark below, and sound noisy all day.
