# Local weather patterns

Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time, recording temperature, rainfall, and other conditions

Subject: Science · Area: Earth's Systems · Ages 5 to 6

## Ready when they can

- Observe and record daily weather conditions (temperature, cloud cover, precipitation, wind)
- Identify patterns in weather data over days or weeks
- Use observations to make simple predictions about upcoming weather

## Lesson: Watching the weather

Will you need a coat, or sunglasses? Weather can be sunny, rainy, cloudy, or windy, and it changes from day to day. Watch it and write it down.

*(drawing: Look at the pattern: sunny, sunny, rainy, sunny, rainy.)*

**Example.** Zoe checks outside every morning. She writes hot or cold, and sunny or rainy. After many days, she sees a pattern.

**Tip.** If today has dark clouds, tomorrow might be rainy too. Patterns help you guess what comes next.

**Recap.** Watch, write it down, and use patterns to guess what comes next.
