# Recording and presenting data

Gather, record, classify, and present data in a variety of ways including tables, bar charts, labelled diagrams, and keys

## Ready when they can

- Organise data into a clear table with appropriate headings
- Create a bar chart or pictogram from collected data
- Use labelled diagrams and classification keys to present findings

## Lesson: Showing what you found

When you finish an investigation, like counting snails in the garden or measuring how fast a plant grows, you need to show your results so other people understand them. Start with a table. Every column gets a heading at the top, so a reader knows what the numbers underneath it mean.

*(drawing: This bar chart shows how many of each minibeast the class found. The tallest bar is the one they found the most of.)*

**Example.** Priya counted 3 snails, 9 ants, and 5 beetles. She made a table with two headings, 'Minibeast' and 'Number found', so anyone could read her results at a glance.

A bar chart and a drawing both need words too. Label every bar with what it counts, or a reader sees tall and short bars but cannot tell what was counted. On a drawing of a plant, add labels with lines pointing to each part.

*(drawing: A key asks one yes or no question at a time. Each answer sends you on to the next question.)*

That is a classification key. It sorts living things step by step, and each yes or no answer takes you one step closer to naming what you found.

**Recap.** Neat tables, clear bar charts, and labelled diagrams help everyone understand what you found.
