# Recording Data

Gather and record data using simple methods such as tables, tally charts, and drawings to help answer questions

Subject: Science · Area: Scientific Inquiry · Ages 5 to 7
Page: https://lightmysky.com/learn/science/recording-data-mt_ZFwPZaDJ0_

## Ready when they can

- Record observations and measurements in a simple table or tally chart
- Use drawings or labelled diagrams to record what was observed
- Explain how the recorded data helps answer the original question

## Lesson: Recording what you find

After you test something, you need to remember what happened. Recording data means writing it down or drawing it.

*(drawing: Sam counts the bugs he finds and charts each number.)*

**Example.** Priya tests three paper planes. Each time a plane flies past the mark, she adds a tally. Plane A gets 4 tallies. Plane B gets 6 tallies. Now she can see which plane flew the farthest.

**Tip.** A drawing works too. Draw what you saw and label the parts. That is recording data as well.

**Tip.** Look back at your table or drawing. It helps you answer your first question.

**Recap.** Write it, tally it, or draw it. Then use it to answer your question.
