## Ready when they can

- Name at least three creatures found in rock pools
- Describe a rock pool as a small ocean habitat on the shore
- Explain one way rock pool animals cope with waves or changing water levels

## Lesson: Life in a Rock Pool

A rock pool is a small pool on the beach. The sea leaves it behind when the tide goes out. Crabs, starfish, and small fish live inside it.

*(drawing: Starfish cling tight to the rocks. Count them: 1, 2, 3.)*

**Example.** Mia peeks into a rock pool at low tide. She spots a crab hiding under a rock. She counts three starfish stuck tight nearby. A tiny fish darts between the plants.

**Tip.** Waves crash into rock pools all day long. Crabs and starfish grip the rocks tightly. Some fish hide in dark cracks to stay safe.

**Recap.** Rock pools are tiny ocean homes where animals hold on tight or hide from crashing waves.
