## Ready when they can

- Describe the stages: seed absorbs water → root appears → shoot pushes up → leaves open
- Compare how a bulb and a seed start growing differently
- Record observations of a growing plant over several days using drawings or a simple diary

## Lesson: How Seeds and Bulbs Grow

A seed looks like it is doing nothing, but it is not asleep. Give it water and warmth, and it wakes up. First it soaks up water. Then a tiny root pushes down into the soil. After that, a shoot pushes up toward the light, and finally leaves open up to catch the sun.

*(drawing: Seed, then root, then shoot, then leaves. Always in this order.)*

A bulb looks different from a seed. It already has food packed inside it, like a lunch box for the plant. A bulb still grows roots first, but its packed-up food helps the shoot grow fast.

**Example.** Every day, Amir drew a picture of his bean plant in a notebook. On day 2 he drew a tiny root. On day 5 he drew a shoot poking out of the soil. On day 9 he drew two little leaves. His diary told the whole story of how the plant grew.

**Tip.** Keep your seed or bulb a little damp, not soaking wet, and check it at the same time each day. Small changes are easier to spot if you look often.

**Recap.** A seed soaks up water, then grows a root, a shoot, and leaves. A bulb grows roots first too, and the food stored inside it helps the shoot grow fast.
