# The Brain Controls the Body

Understand that the brain is the body’s control centre: it receives messages from the senses, thinks and makes decisions, and sends messages through nerves to tell muscles what to do

## Ready when they can

- State that the brain is inside the skull and controls the whole body
- Describe the basic loop: senses send information to the brain, the brain decides what to do, and sends messages to muscles
- Give an example (e.g. eyes see a ball coming, brain decides to catch it, nerves tell hands to move)

## Lesson: Your Brain Is the Boss

Your brain sits inside your skull, safe and snug. It is the boss of your whole body. It tells every part what to do.

*(drawing: Senses see it, the brain decides, then muscles move.)*

**Example.** A ball flies toward Mia. Her eyes see it come. Her brain decides to catch it. Nerves carry the message fast. Her hands move and catch the ball.

**Tip.** Your brain never stops working, even while you sleep. It keeps your heart beating and your lungs breathing all night.

**Recap.** The brain is the body's boss. It senses, decides, and tells muscles what to do.
