## Ready when they can

- Locate their own heartbeat by touch (chest or pulse point)
- State that the heart pumps blood through the body continuously
- Describe blood vessels as tubes that carry blood to every part of the body

## Lesson: Your Heart and Blood

Your heart is a muscle inside your chest. It pumps blood all day and night. Blood cannot move by itself, so your heart pushes it.

*(drawing: Each heart shows one heartbeat. Count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.)*

Blood vessels are tiny tubes inside your body. They carry blood to your arms and legs. Blood reaches every single part of you.

**Example.** Mia puts a hand on her chest. She feels four thumps in a row. Those thumps are her heart, pumping blood.

**Tip.** You can also feel your pulse. Press two fingers gently on your wrist. Feel for soft, steady thumps there too.

**Recap.** Your heart pumps blood through tubes called blood vessels. You can feel it beat under your fingers.
