Places Near and Far
Every place has its own character: weather, land, plants, buildings and how people live; some places are near (our street, our town) and some are far away, and far-off places can be very different from home
What a learner can do afterwards
- Describe features of their own street or town (e.g., 'our town has a market and a river')
- Describe a faraway place from photos or stories (e.g., a desert village or a snowy city) and say how it differs from home
- Name something people do differently in another place because of where it is (e.g., clothes for hot or cold places)
The lesson
Every place has its own character. It has its own weather, land, and buildings. Some places are near you, like your street. Other places are far away.
Look at your own town. Maybe it has a market, a park, or a river. That is what makes your town special.
Far away, a desert village gets very little rain. It is hot, and sand covers the ground. People wear light clothes to stay cool there.
When you see a new place, ask three questions. What is the weather like? What do people wear? What do they eat?
