The lesson
Long ago in Ancient Greece, some thinkers were not soldiers or kings. They were philosophers, people who asked big questions about life and the world. The word philosophy means love of wisdom.
Socrates never wrote his ideas down. Instead, he walked around Athens asking people question after question, like 'What is fairness?' When someone answered, he asked another question to test it. This way of learning is called the Socratic method: instead of being told the answer, you think it through by answering questions.
Socrates taught Plato, who started a school and wrote about what a perfectly fair, ideal society might look like. Plato taught Aristotle, who loved studying the natural world. Aristotle watched plants and animals closely and sorted them into groups based on what they had in common.
Around the same time, a doctor named Hippocrates changed medicine. Many Greeks believed sickness came from angry gods. Hippocrates disagreed. He said illness had natural causes, like bad food or a problem inside the body, and doctors should look for those causes. That is why he is called the father of medicine.
Socrates asked questions, Plato imagined an ideal society, Aristotle classified nature, and Hippocrates looked for natural causes of illness instead of blaming the gods.
