Practising a Language Week by Week
A language grows on regular contact, not on one long session before a test. Plan short contact on most days, cover all four skills across a week, and go back over old material on purpose.
What a learner can do afterwards
- Keep a short practice slot on most days across several weeks
- Include listening and speaking in the week, not only written exercises
- Revisit material from earlier weeks instead of only moving forward

A short slot on most days beats one long cram before a test. Your brain keeps more when it meets the language often.
Cover all four skills across the week: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Reading and writing alone will not train your ears or your mouth.
Lena learns words for ten minutes each evening, says them aloud, and ticks each day off her plan. On Sunday she replays the old words before adding new ones.
Write down fixed days and times and keep them short. Start each slot by going back over old material first.
Practise a little on most days, use all four skills, and revisit old material before adding more.
