What a learner can do afterwards

  • Explain why 1/3 > 1/5 using the idea that more parts means smaller pieces

In math, having the right answer is only half the job. You also need to explain why it is right, step by step, so someone else could follow your thinking and agree with you.

Try it together

Zara wants to find 6×8 without counting one by one. She knows 6×10=60 and 6×2=12. Since 8 is 10 minus 2, she reasons: 6×8 = 6×10 − 6×2 = 60 − 12 = 48. Each step follows from a fact she already knew.

Good to know

When you check someone else's work, follow their steps one at a time. Find the exact step where the numbers stop matching. That is where the mistake lives.
